Low levels of Vitamin D can cause immune functioning to decrease. This means that yes, you have a big risk of getting sick if your body isn't finding good ways to increase this important nutrient.
But wait, doesn't a lot of our body's Vitamin D come from being out in the sun?
Yes! This is so true. Our body makes Vitamin D as Ultraviolet B (UVB) rays hit our skin and triggers the cholesterol in the skin cells to synthesize Vitamin D.
In the winter, not as many UVB rays make it past the atmosphere thus making it harder for the body to synthesize Vitamin B. This is why it is important to use supplements in these times to make sure that your body's maintains a healthy amount of Vitamin B.
